The Sayreville Athletic Association Hurricanes defeated South Brunswick, 8-4, to capture the U10 Girls Championship of the Hazlet Tournament. Sayreville defeated Wall Township, Ewing and Howell to advance to the championship game as the tournament's top seed.

The Hurricanes also took first place in the Sayreville Athletic Association tournament, held the weekend of Aug. 3. The girls defeated Monroe, Edison and Holmdel to advance to the championship game as the No. 1 seed. The championship game vs. No. 2 Edison, resulted in a 5-3 win for the Hurricanes. The Hurricanes compiled an impressive 9-0-1 record throughout the two tournaments. The team was coached by Mike Povelaitis, Ray Marcinczyk and Bob Clayton. The Sayreville Hurricanes are Chelsea Ansley, Brittany Clayton, Allie Esposito, Samantha Evans, Keelyn Leonard, Amanda Marcinczyk, Amber Morgan, Alexa Povelaitis, Megan Quinlan, Heather Sootkoos and Lianne Villano.

The Old Bridge Hustlers U14 girls softball team will have open tryouts Saturday, Aug. 19 at Cheesequake softball field. Tryouts are open to players born in 1993 and 1994. The Hustlers look to build upon a strong spring/summer campaign in which the team posted a 56-7-1 record while winning nine tournaments and gaining two national bids.
