Aug. 23-Sept. 8

• Book Sale, sponsored by the Spotswood Public Library, during regular hours, at the library, 548 Main St. Hardcover books, paperbacks, children's books, audiocassettes, VHS videos. Paperbacks, 50 cents each or three for $1; hardcovers, 75 cents and up; VHS videos, $1. "All-You-Can-Carry for $5," last two days of the event, Sept. 7 and 8. All sales final. Aug. 24 & Fridays through Oct. 12

• Cruise Nights/Car Shows, sponsored by Just Us Cruisers Classic Car Club, 6-9 p.m., in the parking lot at 1980 Route 35 North, next to F-1 Motoring, South Amboy/Sayreville. Family-oriented events feature more than 50 antique and classic cars from across the tristate area. Trophies, games, music from the '50s, '60s, '70s. All proceeds benefit the Sayreville Brain Injured Children Association. Businesses invited to donate a trophy and have their names mentioned at the shows. • Peach Festival, sponsored by Holy Trinity Altar Rosary Society, 1-7 p.m., at the Holy Trinity Parish Center, 100 Main St., Helmetta. White Elephant Sale. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for children age 10 and under.

Aug. 25 & Saturdays ongoing

• Organic Fertilizer and Cleaning-Material Sale, featuring chemical-free products, sponsored by the Lawrence Brook Watershed Partnership, 9 a.m. to noon, Saturdays ongoing, at the group's headquarters building, 85 Washington Ave., Milltown. The nonprofit partnership, dedicated to the protection of the Lawrence Brook Watershed, encourages area residents to avoid the use of toxic lawn and garden products and cleaning liquids. Order forms available at local libraries, at the partnership's Milltown headquarters, at www.lbwp.org or by calling (732) 249-5297 (LBWP).

Aug. 26

• Rummage Sale, sponsored by the Sisterhood of Temple Beth El, 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the temple, JFK Boulevard and DeMott Lane, Somerset section of Franklin. Donations may be dropped off from 9:30-11 a.m. on the day of the sale. Needed: ladies, men's and children's clothing including footwear, suits, shirts, jackets, ties, pants, coats, hats, accessories, etc. All contributions should be packed in large plastic, heavy-duty trash bags.
