• Book Sale, sponsored by the Spotswood Public Library, during regular hours, at the library, 548 Main St. Hardcover books, paperbacks, children's books, audiocassettes, VHS videos. Paperbacks, 50 cents each or three for $1; hardcovers, 75 cents and up; VHS videos, $1. "All-You- Can-Carry for $5," last two days of the event, Sept. 7 and 8. All sales final. Aug. 31 & Fridays through Oct. 12

• Cruise Nights/Car Shows, sponsored by Just Us Cruisers Classic Car Club, 6-9 p.m., in the parking lot at 1980 Route 35 North, next to F-1 Motoring, South Amboy/Sayreville. Family-oriented events feature more than 50 antique and classic cars from across the tristate area. Trophies, games, music from the '50s, '60s, '70s. All proceeds benefit the Sayreville Brain Injured Children Association. Businesses invited to donate a trophy and have their names mentioned at the shows. • Car Wash, sponsored by the East Brunswick High School cross-country track team, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., in the rear parking lot at the high school, Cranbury Road. Car-wash vouchers cost $4 in advance, $5 at the event. (732) 238-3888.
