The Morgan Magic Girls Fast-Pitch travel softball organization will hold open tryouts for its 2008 season on Saturday, Sept. 8, at the following times at Burkes Park, Washington Road in Sayreville: 14U, 10a.m. to noon; and 16U, noon to 2 p.m.

For those who cannot attend these tryouts and would like to make arrangements for a private tryout, contact Coach Gary at (732)-754-2225 or Coach Roger at (732)-742-4671.

Sept. 2, Raritan Bay Cougars will host the Mayor's Trophy games against the Sayrewoods South Rebels. The Cougars are looking forward to a very exciting day of football and cheerleading. On this game day, they will also be celebrating another champion,

Anthony Silvestri.

Anthony is a 3-year-old boy who comes from a long Cougar legacy. His grandfather, Luddy Silvestri, was the president of the organization for over 20 years and now Luddy's son, Kenny, is one of the league's most valued coaches. It is likely that Anthony will also have a love for the game of football, but he may never be able to participant since he has been diagnosed with cystic fibrosis.

Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a lifethreatening genetic disease that causes mucus to build up and clog some of the organs in the body, particularly in the lungs and pancreas. When mucus clogs the lungs, it can make breathing very difficult. The thick mucus also causes bacteria to get stuck in the airways, which causes inflammation and infections that lead to lung damage. Unfortunately for many, complications from CF can result in life-threatening illness or even death. Sadly, the life expectancy for someone with CF is only 34 years old.

Annually, RBC donates hundreds dollars in Anthony's name to fight this disease. During the Mayor's Trophy games, the league will be running 50/50 raffles and putting out donation cans, with all proceeds going to battle this debilitating disease.

Please come out and join the Cougars for a day of celebration with Old Bridge Pop Warner and Anthony Silvestri.
