Assemblyman to offer Sept. 18 mobile office Assemblyman Sam Thompson (R-13) will sponsor a mobile office from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Sept. 18 at the George Bush Senior Center in the municipal complex, Route 516 and Cottrell Road. Individual assistance will be available for homeowners, tenants and mobile homeowners who wish to file for state property-tax rebates, as well as for those who would like to find out if they are eligible for any of the rebate programs. Appointments are not necessary. The deadline to file for the rebates has been extended to Oct. 31. Rebate checks have already been sent to senior and disabled homeowners who filed for the Property Tax Reimbursement (PTR/Senior Tax Freeze) and the homestead rebate by the original June 1 deadline. Property owners who qualify will be able collect both rebates. Rebate checks are scheduled to be mailed in October to homeowners who are not seniors and who are not disabled. Tenant rebates are available to approximately 800,000 senior and nonsenior renters earning less than $100,000. The highest amount, $860, goes to senior tenants earning less than $70,000. Rebates for nonsenior tenants range from $80- $350, depending upon income. Any homeowner, mobile-home owner or tenant who has not filed for a rebate may obtain the applications and assistance from Assemblyman Thompson's office by stopping in or calling (732) 583-5558. Legislative staff members also will provide information, help constituents resolve problems with state agencies and assist those who wish to sign up for state programs such as PAAD (Pharmaceutical Assistance for the Aged and Disabled), Senior Gold, and NJFamilyCare. Veterans will be able to register with the National World War II Memorial in Washington D.C., and apply for New Jersey Military Service Medals. The senior center is a drop-off location for Operation DVD, a drive to collect used and new film DVDs and music CDs to send to U.S. troops serving in war zones. For more information, call the assemblyman's office at (732) 583-5558. |
