Dog-ownership event on tap for Oct. 7 at park

An AKC (American Kennel Club) Responsible Dog-Ownership Day Stroll in the Park is set for 1-4 p.m. on Oct. 7 at Kennedy Park, Washington Road, Parlin section of Sayreville. The event, sponsored by the Sayreville Recreation Department, is designed as an opportunity to learn more about the human-canine relationship.

Participants may bring their dogs (and a can of dog food for donation to the Sayreville Pet Adoption Center) to the park and take a stroll around the lake.

North Star Foundation (www.northstardogs. com), whose clients are children with challenges ranging from autism to serious medical conditions to grief over the loss of a parent, will attend. Also on hand will be representatives of organizations including the Sayreville Pet Adoption Center, Bright and Beautiful Therapy Dogs Inc., Puppy Love and Friends 4-H Club-Seeing Eye Puppy Raisers, Frisky Paws, Poochie Doo Groomers, TLC Dog Training and Agility and When Doody Calls.

Great Balls of Fire fly-ball demonstrations are set for 1:30 and 3:30 p.m.

Information will be available on safety around dogs and on how to form a humane teen club. CGC (Canine Good Citizen) testing will be offered throughout the day.

For more information, call the Sayreville Recreation Department at (732) 390-7092.
