Apartment residents report damage to vehicles, theft
BY MICHAEL ACKER Staff Writer

SAYREVILLE - The Skytop Gardens Apartments was the scene of several recent car break-ins and one motor vehicle theft.

Several residents of the Parlin apartment complex found that the locks of their cars had been tampered with, and a red 1994 BMW 321 with New York license plates was reported stolen on Oct. 3, according to police.

Pieces of the BMW vehicle's lock were recovered in its parking space in the lot between Building 3 and Ernston Road. The vehicle, which was stolen sometime between 9:30 p.m. Oct. 2 and 6:45 a.m. Oct. 3, had reportedly been stolen twice before.

Among the cars broken into was a green 2001 Pontiac Grand Am. The driver's-side door handle was pried, and a Pioneer brand car stereo unit, worth roughly $250, was stolen. Police reported that the molding around the center console of the vehicle was ripped out, and various electrical wires were hanging from the console.

In the parking lot between Ernston Road and Building 33, a red 1995 Nissan Sentra was found unlocked, and the lock mechanism had been chiseled and pried. The vehicle was entered sometime between 9:30 p.m. Oct. 2 and 7:30 a.m. Oct. 3.

Criminal mischief to a motor vehicle occurred in the same parking lot between 10 a.m. Oct. 2 and 5:55 p.m. Oct. 3. The gray 2001 two-door Hyundai vehicle sustained damage to its driver's-side door, but the suspect was unable to gain entry police said.

The Sayreville Police Department requests that anybody with information pertaining to this incident call (732) 727-4444.
