Registration under way for E.B. Road Races

The 30th annual East Brunswick Road Races, featuring the running of the Kids Pumpkin Dashes, the John Ragone 5K Race, the East Brunswick 10K Race and the 1-Mile Fun Run/Walk, is set for Oct. 21 at Crystal Springs Family Aquatic Center, Dunhams Corner Road, East Brunswick. Advance registration is going on. Race-day registration will begin at 11 a.m.; cost is $22.

The event is sponsored by the East Brunswick Department of Recreation and Community Services and the Raritan Valley Road Runners.

Proceeds will go to Camp Daisy, an organization that provides education through recreation for children and young people with disabilities, and to the East Brunswick Rescue Squad.

Kids Dashes are set to start at noon. All participating youngsters will receive a ribbon and a free pumpkin.

The 1-Mile Fun Run/Walk will begin at 12:30 p.m. Families are encouraged to participate as a team.

The 5K race will go off at 1:05 p.m. The 10K event will follow at 1:20 p.m.

Races are open to all individuals who are medically able and properly trained, regardless of age, ability or physical/mental disability. The 5K and 10K races count for 500 points for USA Track and Field New Jersey (USATF-NJ) members.

The day also will feature awards, prizes, post-race refreshments, pumpkinpainting for children, free hot dogs and drinks.

A 30th-anniversary sports bag filled with goodies is guaranteed to all preregistered 5K and 10K runners; other participants will receive the gift while supplies last. There will be free massages by Cross Road Massage Therapy, photos by Mond Photography, and music, games and prizes with the New Jersey 101.5 radio prize van. Representatives of Tiger Schulmann's Karate, East Brunswick, will lead a family stretch at 12:20 p.m., immediately before the 1-Mile Fun Run/Walk.

Applications are available by calling (732) 390-6797 or (848) 391-0200 or by logging on to www.ebrr.org.
