Hymn sing, choir fest set at Methodist church

The United Methodist Church at New Brunswick, 323 George St., will host a Hymn Sing and Choir Festival at 4 p.m. on Oct. 21 to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the birth of Charles Wesley, who, with his brother John, created the Methodist movement in England in the 1700s.

Sometimes called The Christian Poet, Wesley wrote the words to more than 6,500 hymns, many of which remain popular today. The festival will feature the church choir and musicians from several area Methodist churches. The congregation will be invited to join in the singing of Wesley's hymns. Sayreville organist John Stokes has composed a set of variations on a Wesley hymn, a piece which will be premiered at the event.

Admission is free of charge. For more information, call the church office at (732) 545-8975.
