Sports Shorts Sayreville Rec. wrestling team will hold sign-ups for the 2007-08 season at the Arleth School gym Nov. 6-8 and 13-15 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Cost is $60 for Sayreville residents and $65 for nonresidents. The Old Bridge Hornets Girls U8 Soccer Team improved its record to 3-2 with a dominating 6-1 victory over the Neptune Barracudas on Saturday in Old Bridge. The Hornets' tremendous teamwork was on display as they raced to a 3-0 lead on early goals from Skylar Weickert (assisted by Jessica Schmidt), Jackie Tannucilli (assisted by Emily Valazza) and Jessica Schmidt (assisted by Brianna Quezada), before Neptune scored to cut the lead to 3-1. After two saves by Hornets goalkeeper Trinity Malave kept the score 3-1, the Hornets exploded with three insurance goals by Julia Sandor, Shannon Kearns and Kayla Lombardi to put the game out of reach. Sierra Stevenson made three second-half saves for the Hornets to preserve the victory. In State Cup action, the U11 Old Bridge Thunder defeated the TBAA Bengals 4-2 in overtime Saturday in Glouster County. The Thunder got off to a less than perfect start by conceding two goals in the first half. With the Thunder down 2-0, and 15 minutes to play, Alexis Suarez scored the first of her three goals on a 15-yard strike. Then Suarez set up Alyssa Kramer on a cross from the right side with no time remaining in regulation play. The first overtime period was scoreless, and in the 73rd and 75th minutes, Suarez drilled two 20-yard shots to go up 4-2. Goalkeeper Gina Colamonico and fullbacks Nicole Velez, Angelique Giglio and Tanvi Lodhia thwarted the Bengal attack. Spirited play from Samantha Potts, Gianna Taranto, Vanessa Mantione, Kristina Hourican, Alexandria D'Acunto, Katherine Conway, Samantha Hourican and Elana Konichowsky led the Thunder throughout the day. The Thunder now travel to Holmdel in the round of 16 this week. Girls Soccer League of Old Bridge - U9 Blue Magic cast their magical spell as witches at the Freehold Frightfest Tournament Oct. 13 to win both of their games. The following girls of Blue Magic had a howling good time at the tournament celebrating their winning games: Heather Adamcewicz, Courtney Brennan, Nicole Carbone, Emily Carrington, Stefani Colamonico, Kristi Gambino, Breanna Jacinto, Samantha Jaeger, Dominique Lovallo, Allison Moukios, Angela Pagiazitis, and Sarah Resciniti. National Wrestling Superstars will return to the Knights of Columbus hall, 775 Washington Road in the Parlin section of Sayreville on Nov. 9 starting at 7:45 p.m. to benefit the Columbian Squires and the High School Marching Unit. On the card that night will be former WWE & WCW star "America's Hero" The Patriot, a Ladies Match, and a gauntletstyle Last Man Standing Jersey Shore Title Match pitting the champion, Sayreville's own Nicky Oceans, against participants to be announced in the coming weeks. Topping the bill will be the appearance of a WWE legend, Tony "Mr. USA" Atlas. Tickets for both events are $18 for adults and $16 for children and are available at TJ's Pizza, Bordentown Avenue; Minit Mart, Main Street, Sayreville; Grand Slam Sports, 102 South Broadway, South Amboy; and Villaggio's Pizza, Main Street, South River. The Monroe U13 Lady Falcons split their opening games in Mid Monmouth league play last week. In the opener, Monroe beat Jackson 26-25. Kylie Davidson led all scorers with nine points while Samantha Clark and Stephanie Johler each added five points. Christina Felice hit a three-pointer, and Jena Pritzlaff and Jackie Racine each added a basket. Keriann Manziano, Meghan Mc- Claren and Victoria Clayton each added some key minutes on the defensive end. On Friday, Monroe fell to Wall 35-30. After opening a 17-4 second-quarter lead, Wall railed with four three-pointers in a row to narrow the lead to 18-17 at halftime. Pritzlaff led Monroe scoring with 10 points including two three-pointers. Johler and Felice each chipped in with five points, including a three-pointer apiece, while Davidson scored three points. Clark, Manziano and Racine had two points each, and Alexa Carini netted a free throw. Kristen Junquet fresh off the DL provided a few key defensive minutes. This week Monroe continues Mid Monmouth League play against Colts Neck and Hazlet. The Raritan Bay Jr. Pee Wee football team got a 30-0 win to bring their record to 8-0. Jordan Fetterman led the Cougars with a pair of passing touchdowns, one to Brandon Giles and one to Julanee Prince. Jordan also scored on a two-yard run, Mike Friedman also scored on the ground. A very strong performance by the Cougar Defense led by Isaiah Trawick getting a fumble recovery on a stripped ball from Brandon Giles that he took 55 yards for a touchdown. Chris Hulse, Myles Williams and Devin Eardley also had strong performances. The Pee Wees picked up a very important win over the Indians. Brian Gearghty led the Cougars with two touchdown runs, and Dwayne Trawick ran for a score. With a strong offense you need a strong defense, and the Cougars provided that with Dwayne picking off two Indians passes. The PeeWees ended the season 5-3. The Midgets suffered a 26-6 loss. The lone touchdown was courtesy of Jarrod Eardley. The team ended the season at 5-3. The Raritan Bay Cougars Pee Wee cheer squad took first place at the Central Jersey Cheer Competition this psat Saturday at the Sovereign Bank Arena in Trenton. Congratulations to Brittany Amabile, Danielle Barbieri, Alex Burlew, Christina Carrano, Victoria Carson, Shannon Colley, Jessica Denney, Danielle Logaras, Tiffany Meyers, Emilie Millan, Danielle Mosley, Michelle Navarro, Ashleigh O'Brien, Nicoleta Reinhold, Melissa Valazza, Amanda Vega, Miranda McGee and Laney Roberson. Head coach is Peggie Ballo, and assistant coaches are Mindy Denney, Brianna Mamakas, Melissa Weber and Amanda Breitowich. The Old Bridge Soccer League U17 boys travel team will hold tryouts for the spring season. Interested players are required to attend the tryout sessions scheduled on Oct. 26 and Nov. 2. The sessions will be held from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Ticetown Road soccer fields. Players trying out should come with the proper equipment for these tryouts.
