Snap is the right 'fit' for new business owner

Old Bridge Snap Fitness officially opened its doors Oct. 13 with help from Mayor Jim Phillips (front, l-r), owner Gail Goldstein and Councilman Reggie Butler. Also on hand were trainer Brian Weiss (back, l-r), employee Mark Sawh, trainer Maria Roelle, and Goldstein's daughter, Alex, and husband, Charlie.
OLD BRIDGE - East Brunswick resident Gail Goldstein has recently opened a 24-hour fitness center in Jake Brown Plaza, Route 516.

The Snap Fitness franchise represents a new career for Goldstein, who previously worked in sales and retail. But, she said, the new endeavor feels right, due to her belief in staying fit and feeling good about oneself.

"I believe that fitness is an important key to living a long, healthy and happy life," she said. "I hope to make that contribution to the Old Bridge community."

Snap Fitness opened on Oct. 14, encompassing 3,000 square feet that had been vacant for about a year, but was previously home to Jab Fitness.

Goldstein described her business as "a neighborhood fitness center servicing the Old Bridge community."

The gym is open at all hours, seven days a week. It has two personal trainers, Brian Weiss, who has seven years' experience in health and fitness and as a personal trainer; and Maria Roelle, who has 20 years' experience in the physical fitness industry. Staffing hours vary, but the gym is generally staffed from 8 a.m. until 9 p.m. on weekdays, with hours ending earlier on weekends.

When staffing is not present, gym members can gain access through a key card, and the gym is monitored thanks to eight cameras and the contracted services of a contracted firm.

"Even if you're alone, you're never alone here because of our security system," Goldstein said. The key card access can be used at any of the 467 Snap Fitness centers nationwide.

Goldstein noted that the center uses state-of-the-art equipment, including a complete cardio section, with a flat-screen television for each piece of equipment. The gym is also stocked with free weights and strength equipment, as well as the newest Cybex machines and arc trainers. There is also an unlimited tanning upgrade.

The gym uses a "pay as you go" system in lieu of long-term contracts, Goldstein noted. Members can join for a month or longer, with monthly payments deducted at the first of each month. Members can cancel at any time, Goldstein said. Prices average about $30 to $34 per month for individuals. Family memberships are also available.

The fitness center can be found online at www.snapfitness.com/oldbridge, or by calling (732) 679-SNAP.
