Texas Hold-Em event will aid Cooper Fund

A Texas Hold-Em Tournament/Football Buffet to benefit the Chris Cooper Scholarship Fund is planned for 1-5 p.m. on Nov. 18 at Palms Plaza Catering, Park Plaza, Route 34, Old Bridge.

The event will feature the poker tournament, a buffet dinner and three big-screen televisions on which to watch football games.

Cost is $125 per player (with a $15 discount for the first 50 players to sign up), $45 for nonplayers/spectators. Price includes tournament buy-in and unlimited food, beer, wine and soda for all.

Prizes to the top three winners will be a "surprise" trip for two, airfare and hotel included; a television; and an overnight stay with dinner for two at the Borgata Hotel and Casino, Atlantic City.

The event will raise money for the scholarship fund, named in honor of Cooper, a 1999 Old Bridge High School (OBHS) graduate who pitched for the high school baseball team and died as the result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., in 2003. Proceeds will help an eligible OBHS boys baseball player and an OBHS girls softball player attend college. Recipients are selected based on leadership, good sportsmanship, playing ability and a love of the game.

For more information and to register, call Nanette or Jim at (732) 721-9045 after 7 p.m. or log on to www.coopsta.com.
