In the Old Bridge Fall Baseball League, the Madison Park Thunder continued their undefeated season by winning the championship game with a 5-4 decision Nov. 3. During the season, Madison Park was led by solid pitching from Danny Brennan, Peter Marottoli and Chris Pozo. They also had strong hitting from Chris Perez, Donny Dugan, Matt Ballo and Brandon Smith. Also contributing throughout the year were Chaz Franqui, Matt Short, Jake Dorr and Connor Riecks. Anthony Marottoli, Carlos Perez, Joe Ballo, and Angel Pozo coached the team.
The Central Jersey Championship was played in Allentown, with the 9-0 Raritan Bay Cougars defeating the 9-0 Hopewell Valley Bulldogs 32-6. The Cougars set the tone early on the first drive with a key 37- yard interception from Brandon Giles who took the ball down to the Bulldog 9 yard line. Two plays later, Mike Friedman had a 4-yard touchdown run to put the Cougars ahead 6- 0 and they never looked back. On defense, Daniel Grillo knocked the ball loose from a Bulldog runner and Steven Clarke got the fumble recovery. Two plays later, Jordan Fetterman found Julanee Prince for an 82-yard touchdown pass with Mike Friedman scoring the extra point. Friedman ran hard on Sunday and capped off his day with another touchdown from three yards out.
In the Pride Bowl Championship game, the Raritan Bay Cougars played the Edison Jets. The Jets won the game 21-14. Brian Gearghty hit Ziggy Tykarski on a 20- yard pass to set up a touchdown run by Gearghty. The other score was on a 35 yard run strike from Gearghty to Tykarski.
The Cheesequake Baseball League will be holding registration for the 2007/2008 incoming season. In person registration will be held on Nov. 17, Dec. 1, and Dec. 15 from 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at the Cheesequake Fields located on Route 9 North and Schulmeister Road in Old Bridge.
Pre-register by December 31 to receive a $20 discount. Mail-in registration is available by going to the Web site at www.leaguelineup.com/cqba, click on handouts to download an application.
Wood bat Saturday is back. The league will supply the bats.
