County health dept. schedules additional flu clinics

The Middlesex County Public Health Department recently announced plans for several additional influenza clinics.

The new schedule is as follows:

Nov. 26 - South River Knights of Columbus, 88 Jackson St., 10 a.m. to noon;

Nov. 27 - Puerto Rican Association for Human Development, 100 First St., Perth Amboy, 10 a.m. to noon;

Nov. 29 - Spotswood Office on Aging, 1 Arlington Ave., 10 a.m. to noon;

Nov. 30 - Middlesex County Administration Building, Fifth-Floor Conference Room, 75 Bayard St., New Brunswick, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.;

Dec. 3 - Middlesex County Fire Academy, 1001 Fire Academy Drive, Sayreville, 4- 6 p.m.

The clinics will offer free flu vaccinations to Middlesex County residents age 18 and older. Medicare will be billed for influenza immunizations. Residents without Medicare coverage will not be charged for the shots. Proof of age and residency are required, and no one under 18 years of age will be vaccinated.

Free pneumococcal immunizations also are available, by appointment only, to county residents who are 65 years of age and older and who have not previously received the vaccine. Medicare will be billed where applicable. Proof of age is required. For a pneumococcal vaccine appointment, call (732) 745-3100, Mondays-Fridays, 2-4 p.m.
