| SAYREVILLE - Authorities are looking for a borough man charged with sexually assaulting a 6-year-old girl.
The Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office is searching for Luis Minguela, 35, whose last known address was on the 700 block of Downing Street in the Parlin section.
The suspect is accused of molesting the girl in October 2003, when she and a sibling were sleeping at their grandmother's residence overnight. The suspect was the husband of the alleged victim's maternal grandmother, according to the Prosecutor's Office. The victim's grandmother ran into the room when she heard the girl wake up crying, and immediately threw Minguela out of the house.
The victim's mother was then notified and the child was taken to the hospital for an examination, according to the Prosecutor's Office. The hospital notified Woodbridge police.
Minguela was indicted on charges of sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child, both second-degree offenses, in May 2004. He entered a plea agreement for aggravated criminal sexual contact, a third-degree charge, in November 2004, but failed to appear for sentenc- ing in February 2005. A bench warrant was issued for his arrest, with bail set at $75,000.
Upon his arrest, Minguela would face a plea deal with a more severe sentence, according to Lt. Christopher Engram, of the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office.
"Now he will have to face what the original offer was, which was more substantial," said Lt. Christopher Engram of the Prosecutor's Office.
Engram said witnesses can provide information confidentially, and a $500 reward is being offered for information leading to Minguela's arrest. However, Engram urged that those who come into contact with Minguela not try to apprehend him.
Minguela, who was born in Puerto Rico, was described as having brown hair, and is 5 feet 4 inches tall, weighing about 150 pounds.
Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call Engram at (732) 745-4150.
