Police seek info on '06 hit-and-run

SAYREVILLE - Borough police are continuing to investigate a hit-and-run collision that killed a former Old Bridge police officer one year ago last week.

Peter J. Ewtushek, 35, who lived in the borough's Parlin section, was killed at 10:10 p.m. Nov. 23 when he was struck by a car on Route 9. Ewtushek had been crossing the highway on foot when a southbound vehicle in the area of the Checkers restaurant hit him.

The vehicle left the scene and police are continuing to seek information about the unknown suspect who was driving.

Ewtushek was later pronounced dead at Raritan Bay Medical Center in Perth Amboy as the result of his injuries.

A lifelong resident of the Sayreville and South Amboy area, Ewtushek was a graduate of Sayreville War Memorial High School and Monmouth University, West Long Branch. He had served with the Old Bridge Police Department but was not working there at the time of his death.

Ewtushek was survived by his mother, Maureen Grover of Parlin; a stepbrother, Robert K. Grover Jr. of Sayreville; and stepsisters Annmarie Carlton of North Carolina and Judith Pitsios of South Amboy.

Ewtushek's stepfather, Robert K. Grover, a retired Sayreville police officer, died earlier in 2006.

Witnesses to the Thanksgiving 2006 hitand run accident are asked to contact the Sayreville Police Department at (732) 727- 4444 or the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office at (732) 745-3300.
