Assault on vehicle reported after verbal argument on road BY MICHAEL ACKER Staff Writer
SAYREVILLE - Police are looking for three suspects in a vehicular assault that reportedly took place at the Rita's Ices store on Washington Road Nov. 16.
The assault on the alleged victims and their car is considered a possible road rage incident, as the chain of events began with a verbal altercation on the road.
The incident took place around 8:24 p.m. when two unknown suspects in a white Ford Expedition pulled up behind the victims' truck, driven by a 19-year-old South Amboy resident, on Pulaski Avenue. The female driver in the suspect vehicle blew the horn and yelled at the victims, resulting in a verbal altercation, according to the police report.
When the victims drove off, the suspects followed them to Rita's Ices in Parlin. There, a third suspect pulled up in a blue Ford Expedition. The third suspect, along with the female and a male from the first Ford Expedition, approached the victims.
The male from the first Expedition allegedly attempted to strike the driver in the victims' vehicle. The male from the second Expedition then allegedly damaged the body of the victim's truck and broke all the side windows and the back window using a baseball bat, while the three passengers were still inside.
One of the suspects' vehicles was then driven into the victims' vehicle before the suspects fled the scene.
Two passengers in the victims' car, a male and a female, were cut by glass during the incident. They later refused medical attention.
The two males accused in the assault were described as being Hispanic.
Authorities are asking those with information pertaining to this incident or to the suspects involved to call the Sayreville Police Department at (732) 727- 4444.
