Car stolen despite effort of victim

SAYREVILLE - A 58-year-old Parlin resident was the victim of a recent carjacking, according to police.

The incident took place in the parking lot of a business on the 400 block of Ernston Road at 8:20 a.m. Nov. 23, according to the report. The victim had left his gray 1999 four-door Nissan Maxima parked in front of a food store with the engine of his running.

As the victim walked toward the door of the business, he saw an unknown suspect enter his vehicle and back out of the parking space.

The victim then jumped on the hood of the car in an attempt to stop the perpetrator. The suspect responded by driving in circles in the parking lot in order to get the victim off the vehicle. However, the victim was able to maintain his grip on the hood of the car.

The suspect then drove to the rear of the property, where he made an abrupt turn and the victim fell to the ground.

The suspect then drove off onto Route 9 north in the stolen vehicle.

Police received a description of the suspect as being a 5-foot-9-inch black male, weighing approximately 200 pounds.

The Morgan First Aid Squad treated the victim at the scene for injuries sustained to one of his hands and both of his knees, which were bleeding. The victim refused further medical attention.

Anyone with information pertaining to the incident is asked to call the Sayreville Police Department at (732) 727-4444.
