Volunteers, donors brighten holiday for children in need

OLD BRIDGE - Township police held their 12th annual Cops for Kids holiday party Dec. 14 for children of local families in need.

Though the organization sponsors other events, the invitation-only holiday party at the George Bush Senior Center is its most recognizable and consistent event. The guest list consisted of about 75 children and their families.

The crowd was treated to dinner and dessert, a visit from Santa Claus, and of course, gifts for all the children.

"As a non-profit organization, donations are the key to our success," said Old Bridge Police Lt. Ross Moltisanti, program coordinator. "As usual, our donors were very generous, and we are extremely grateful to them for their participation."

This year's donors were La Dolce Bakery, Provident Bank, Domino's Pizza, the Grand Marquis, NBC's Today Show Toy Drive, Toys 'R Us, Carpet Cottage, J&M Flooring, RKD Tree Service,Merrill Lynch, Stan O'Rear Construction, KFC, Top Hat Catering, Wal-Mart, Freihofer's, ShopRite and MTV Driving School.

Moltisanti noted that the program's volunteers are equally important.

"Like our donors, we seem to get more every year," he said. "While they are too numerous to mention individually, they consist of police officers, civilian department employees, municipal employees, their families and friends. We even had the Girl Scouts help out this year. I would like to thank each and every one of them on another terrific effort.

Moltisanti also gave "special thanks" to Chief of Police Tom Collow, Diane Amabile of the township Office onAging, and theOld Bridge Parks & Recreation Department.
