Jan. 10, ongoing

• Adopt-A-Family, sponsored by the South River Elementary School PTA, to make the holiday season more enjoyable for disadvantaged children in South River. Jan. 10-12

• Book Sale, sponsored by the Spotswood Public Library, during regular hours, at the library, 548 Main St. Hardcover books, paperbacks, children's books, VHS videos, audiocassettes available. Paperbacks sell for 50 cents each or three for $1, hardcovers for 75 cents and up, VHS videos for $1. All- You-Can-Carry-for-$5 Sale set for the last two days of the event, Jan. 11 and 12. Jan. 11

• Tricky Tray, sponsored by Central Elementary School PTA, East Brunswick, doors open at 6 p.m., event begins at 7:30 p.m., in the cafeteria at East Brunswick High School, 380 Cranbury Road. Grand prize: 46-inch HD/LCD television. Other prizes: passes to Walt Disney World, Orlando, Fla.; designer bags; jewelry; electronics; toys; gift cards; more. • Family Luau, sponsored by Our Lady of Lourdes School, doors open at 5 p.m. (dinner and refreshments available for purchase), music and dancing 6-9 p.m., at the school, 44 ClevelandAve.,Milltown. Participants invited to dress in tropicalthemed attire. Souvenir photos, chances for basket raffles available for purchase. Admission at the door is $5 per person. • Social and Fundraising Parish Night, sponsored by St. Stephen Protomartyr Church, South River, 6-11 p.m., at Knights of Columbus Hall, 88 Jackson St., South River. Christmas play, talent show, live international music with three bands, dancing. Food and beverages served. Admission is $20 per adult, $5 per child. Tickets available in the church vestibule after Mass or by calling the parish office at (732) 257-0100.

•Winter Book Sale, sponsored by the Friends of the Sayreville Public Library, 1:30-3:30 p.m., in the conference room at the library, Washington Road, Parlin section of Sayreville. Books may be purchased separately or for $5 a bag. Fiction, nonfiction, mystery, paperbacks, more. (732) 727-1566.

• Tricky Tray, sponsored by the Loyal Order and Women of the Moose of South River Moose Lodge No. 884, doors open at noon, event begins at 2 p.m., at the lodge, 49 Reid St. Admission is $5; includes one sheet of tickets. Light refreshments.Members, guests invited. (732) 254-5522.

• Proceeds Night, sponsored by Our Lady of Lourdes School, Milltown, 5-9 p.m., at TGI Friday's, Route 1 south, North Brunswick. Restaurant will donate 20 percent of each supporter's check (eatin or takeout) to the school. Diners must present a flier for donation to count.
