Three charged after early a.m. fights
BY MICHAEL ACKER Staff Writer

SAYREVILLE - Police arrested three suspects after responding to the scene of a large fight on Lincoln Street on New Year's Day.

Police said 19-year-old Brian Robert Harkins, 21-yearold James P. Disbrow and a 17-year-old juvenile were each charged with disorderly conduct. The adults were each held on $10,000 bail, while the minor was released to his parent's custody.

PatrolmanMichael Gaines arrived at the scene at 2:59 a.m. Jan. 1 to find two fights, one in the middle of the road and another on the side lawn of a Lincoln Street residence.

The two men fighting in the middle of the road complied with Gaines' order to step away from each other. One of them then fled the scene towardWoodlandAvenue.

Gaines advised police headquarters of the larger fight that was taking place on the lawn of the residence, where six people were engaged in a physical altercation. Three of the suspects involved in that fight fled the scene when they saw Gaines, who used a burst of pepper spray to subdue a suspect who was allegedly acting as an aggressor in the altercation.

The three remaining men separated from each other and Gaines placed them under arrest.

The patrol officer also called for emergency medical services to come to the scene, since two men were bleeding heavily from the head and face. TheMorgan FirstAid Squad responded, but the two individuals with deep lacerations to their heads refused further medical attention.

South Amboy police also responded and conducted a search of the area, finding two more people involved in the incident.
