Food delivery person struck

SAYREVILLE - Police are looking for a suspect who allegedly hit a 46-year-old deliveryman with a tire iron at a borough apartment building last week.

Police responded to the Lakeview Drive apartment on a report that an aggravated assault occurred there between 9:45 p.m. and 10:58 p.m. Jan. 9.

The employee of SultanWok, a Chinese food restaurant on Main Street in downtown Sayreville, went to the apartment to deliver food and rang the doorbell. At that point, a man who was described to police as being approximately 5 feet 2 inches tall and having dark-colored skin, approached the victim from another part of the hallway and struck him in the neck with a tire iron.

The victim managed to remain stand- ing and yelled at the assailant, who then fled on foot without robbing the employee.

Police confirmed that none of the actual tenants of the building had ordered food, according to police, and it is believed that the unknown man with the tire iron had placed the order.

The deliveryman, who had a swollen left ear and a dark red mark on the right side of his neck, reportedly declined medical attention.

The suspect was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt with the hood pulled low over his face to obscure the view of him.Anyone with information on the incident should call Detective Richard Belotti of the Sayreville Police Department at (732) 525-5413.
