Newspaper discredited hard-working team
My sister and many of the members of the Old Bridge High School swim team were very insulted with the article that Warren Rappleyea wrote about the team in the most recent issue of the Suburban ("Old Bridge swim teams trying to stay afloat," Suburban, Jan. 10). The title of the article, which is the first thing that readers see when looking at the page, implies that the team is so terrible that they can barely swim.

According to my sister, the team swims about 4,000 yards a day (when practices are not cut short). I doubt that they would have trouble staying afloat swimming that many yards per practice. Not only does the team work hard during practice, but it also has been known for having the highest cumulative GPA for a sports team in the school.

Old Bridge does not currently have its own YMCA to practice in. The team commutes daily to the Woodbridge YMCA, where it is given a limited number of lanes and a limited amount of time. How can a team be successful if it is not given the proper resources? According to my sister, six teams share that pool, and they are often forced to cut down their practices to 1,200 yards.

Why would the newspaper insult such a hardworking group of individuals?
