Police arrest suspects after allegedly finding drugs, gun

OLD BRIDGE - Two men were arrested onweapons and drug charges outside the After Dark go-go bar on Route 35 last week.

Jonathon Raymond, 22, of SouthAmboy, was charged with possession of a weapon, possession of under 50 grams of marijuana and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. Kelsey Robert, 22, of Perth Amboy, was charged with illegal possession of a handgun, according toOld Bridge Police Lt. RobertMoser.

PatrolmanMichael Snee, whowas on patrol in the area, made the arrests around 11:30 p.m. Jan. 24 after he drove around the rear of the bar property and found Raymond and Robert in a 2005 Chrysler Sebring, Moser said. After reportedly observing Raymond hiding something in a suspiciousmanner in the front passenger seat, Snee asked Raymond to step out of the vehicle.

Snee patted down Raymond and found an awl, a pointed tool that is used for piercing holes, in his jacket pocket, according to police. Snee then placed Raymond under arrest for possession of aweapon, since an awl falls under the weapons category, Moser said.He added that police recovered several small bags of marijuana from Raymond after another search conducted later that night.

Snee reportedly asked the driver, Robert, to exit the vehicle after Raymond was arrested. The officer then reportedly found a loaded 9-millimeter Browning handgun in Robert's jacket pocket, according to police.

Snee handcuffed Robert and put him in the rear of the patrol car with Raymond. Robert was held atMiddlesex CountyAdult Correction Center, North Brunswick, on $50,000 bail. Raymond's bail was set at $30,000.

Moser commended Snee for his work in making the arrests.

"He took a gun off the streets," Moser said. "He did a good job on this."

Moser said police have reported to After Dark in the past for different kinds of calls, and officers include the area in their patrols.

"We have our up and down moments," Moser said. "We get calls there for fights, so our officers are always doing proactive patrolling in there before things go down."
