Police arrest two after report of suspicious car, brief pursuit BY MICHAEL ACKER Staff Writer
OLD BRIDGE - A resident's report of a suspicious vehicle parked nearby led to the arrest of two Sayreville men recently.
Patrolman Kurt Peins of the Old Bridge Police Department was dispatched to Princeton Road after a resident reported observing two men drinking inside a brown Chevy van, which had been parked on the street for 40 minutes on the afternoon of Feb. 9.
Peins reportedly got there in time to see the suspects leaving.
Marek S. Bukowiec, 46, of Sayreville, allegedly swerved the van into the oncoming lane before he started driving slowly on the proper side of the road. Peins activated his lights and siren to conduct a motor vehicle stop after he saw Bukowiec allegedly make two turns without signaling and ignore a stop sign.
Police said Bukowiec continued to drive, making a right turn on Cheesequake Road and stopping for a red light at Bordentown Avenue. When the light turned green, Bukowiec reportedly steered the van into the QuickChek parking lot, where additional police units from Old Bridge and Sayreville arrived to provide backup to Peins.
Police charged Bukowiec with driving while intoxicated and reckless driving at 2:55 p.m. Bukowiec also faces a charge of having an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle, since police said they found a bottle of rum in plain sight during the motor vehicle stop.
Old Bridge Patrolman Thomas Geant charged the passenger of the vehicle, Robert Wacewicz, 42, of Parlin, with disorderly conduct, for allegedly exhibiting aggressive behavior and yelling at police at the scene.
