Plays will shed light on race and identity

The Performing Arts Department at Middlesex County College, Edison, will present two upcoming one-act plays featuring pointed observations about race and identity.

Limited tickets are available for "Los Vendidos" and "The Meeting" to be performed at 8 p.m. on Feb. 29 and March 1 and at 2 p.m. on March 2 in the college's new Studio Theater.

"Los Vendidos" ("The Sellouts") by Luis Valdez debuted in 1968 at the playwright's Theatro Campesino in Los Angeles and mocks social foibles and inequities, particularly poking fun at commonly held Mexican stereotypes and the attitudes they provoke.

"The Meeting" by Jeff Stetson depicts the author's impression of what the Rev. Dr.Martin Luther King Jr. andMalcolm X might have had to say to each other if they had met for an hour or so.

Jose Rodriguez and Mark Suarez of New Brunswick, Amanda Guzman of South Plainfield, Daniel Gonzalez of Sayreville, Ashley Sanchez of Perth Amboy, Chase Torney of Old Bridge, Hans Augustave of Matawan and Jihad Bell of North Brunswick will appear in both plays. Director is Benjamin V. Marshall of Plainfield.

Tickets, which cost $7 for adults, $5 for students and seniors, may be reserved by calling (732) 906-2545.
