House party leads to charges

SAYREVILLE - Police charged several 18-year-old partygoers with summonses related to underage drinking at a Kierst Street home recently.

Police were dispatched to the residence on a report of underage drinking there at 11:27 p.m. Feb. 17. When authorities arrived, they reportedly observed empty alcohol bottles in the front porch area near the garage, as they knocked at the door.

The police officers reported hearing someone say that a girl was sick before they entered the home. An 18-year-old female resident of the house opened the door and consented to allow police inside, since they said that they wanted to check on the condition of the sick juvenile.

Upon entering the residence, the uniformed police officers reported that many of the partygoers began to flee the scene. Police located a 17-year-old girl who was vomiting in the backyard, before she passed out. Another 17-year-old female also began to vomit as additional police units arrived, police said. The Morgan First Aid Squad arrived at the scene to treat both intoxicated girls.

Police decided to have the parents or guardians of the 10 youths at the scene pick them up due to the large amount of alcohol that they found there. Police recovered 49 cans of beer, 36 bottles of Smirnoff Ice, six bottles of Mike's Hard Lemonade, two bottles of CaptainMorgan rum, an Absolut Vodka bottle and a bottle of Twisted Tea. The alcohol was confiscated to the evidence room at police headquarters.

Police issued summonses to five 18- year-old attendees, charging them with violation of a borough ordinance for underage possession and consumption of alcohol. Police said the young adults could face monetary fines when they appear in municipal court.
