Man arrested in drive-by shooting at O.B. business

OLD BRIDGE - AMarlboro Township man has been charged with a drive-by shooting that occurred Feb. 11 at a Bordentown Avenue business.

Kevin A. Papalia, 22, of Texas Road in the Morganville section, was arrested on Feb. 22 and charged with two counts of criminalmischief, four counts of aggravated assault, one count of possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and possession of an assault rifle.

Using a Bushmaster semi-automatic rifle, the suspect allegedly fired two rounds into a bay door and concretewall at Forman Industries at 2:30 p.m. Feb. 11. He also fire three rounds into a 1994 Acura Integra parked in the lot of the business, according to the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office. The aggravated assault charges are for allegedly firing the shots in the direction of four employees of the business, though the suspect reportedly was not trying to hit them, authorities said.

No one was injured in the incident.

Several hours after the shooting, the suspect was arrested by Essex County authorities on the campus of Seton Hall University, South Orange. It is alleged that Papalia walked onto the campus and fired several shots from a handgun. None of those shots struck other individuals, but Papalia did shoot himself in the stomach, police said.

Later, police arrested Lisa M.Williams, 23, of Edison, who is described as an acquaintance of Papalia. Williams was charged with tampering with evidence by withholding the semi-automatic rifle that Papalia allegedly used in the Old Bridge incident. She was also charged with hindering apprehension by giving false information concerning the suspect's whereabouts during the Old Bridge shooting, according to the Prosecutor's Office.

Police recovered the semi-automatic rifle believed to have been used in the Old Bridge incident. The handgun believed to have been used in the Seton Hall incident was also recovered, according to the Prosecutor's Office.

Authorities did not release information regarding any possiblemotive for the shootings.

Papalia is being held at the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center, North Brunswick, with bail set at $265,000.
