Presentation to focus on Sand Hill Indians The public is invited to learn about the American Indians who never left New Jersey at the nextmeeting of the Intertribal Indians of New Jersey set for 2 p.m. onMarch 15 in the log cabin located beside the lake and opposite the animal enclosure in Thompson Park,Monroe. Claire Garland, director of the SandHill Indian Historical Association, will discuss the Lenape and Cherokee people whomake up the Sand Hill Band and who have lived and still live in northernMonmouth County. Garland's presentationwill include artifacts and historical documents. Intertribal American Indians of New Jersey is a nonprofit organization that provides social activities and support to American Indians living inNewJersey.Members come from tribes throughout the country. The group is dedicated to educating the public about American-Indian culture and history. Members facilitate programs for schools, corporations, universities and healthcare organizations. A discussion titled "Settlers Along the Shore" is set for the group's May 17 meeting. Historian and author Paul Boyd will dispelmyths about the Lenape and their life along the Jersey shore.
