One car stolen, four burglarized at residences around Sayreville
BY MICHAEL ACKER Staff Writer

SAYREVILLE- Severalmotor vehicles were burglarized throughout the borough and one was stolen from the parking lot of an apartment building recently.

The burglaries occurred outside residences, sometimes while the car was parked in the property owner's driveway. In some cases, the victims had left expensive items in plain sight, which led to their property being targeted, according to police, who were investigating to determine whether any or all of the burglaries were related.

One of the thefts was reported on Leshyk Drive in Parlin on Feb. 29. The suspect broke into the victim's 2005 Mercury brandmotor vehicle and stole a Sirius satellite radio valued at $300, as well as a number of CDs, sometime between 6:30 p.m. Feb. 28 and 8 a.m. Feb. 29. The satellite radio was on the front windshield and was not hidden from view while the car was parked in the victim's driveway.

Another theft from a motor vehicle was reported soon after. Police were dispatched to a Puchala Drive residence, only a few blocks away from Leshyk Drive, where the driver's-side window of a 2004 Mitsubishi Endeavor was smashed while the car was parked in the driveway. This break-in occurred between 7:30 p.m. Feb. 28 and 8:34 a.m. Feb. 29. A TomTom navigation system worth $800 was stolen. The car's alarmsystemreportedly neverwent off during the incident.

Theft from a motor vehicle was also reported on Jacobson Street, nearMacArthur Avenue, at 3:46 p.m. March 1. The victim had left his gray 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser parked outside the residence with the doors unlocked. An XMRadio valued at $200 was stolen from the car.

Another theft from a motor vehicle was reported by a Robinhood Drive resident at 8:57 a.m. March 2. While the resident's 2002Honda Civic was parked in front of the home between 1 p.m.March 1 and 8:35 a.m. March 2, an unknown suspect smashed the driver's-side window and stole a Garmin GPS unit worth $300. Police advised the victimto leave valuable items out of sight in the future, since the GPS device was left at the top of the dashboard and was mounted to the window.

Theft of a motor vehicle was reported in a parking lot behind Building 3 of Crestview Apartments on the northbound side of Route 9 at 5:55 a.m. March 1. The victim had left the red 1999 Pontiac Grand Am with the keys in the ignition and the engine running while he was inside the apartment getting gear to load into the car. When the victim returned to the parking lot, the car was gone.

Anyone with information related to any of the incidents is asked to call the Sayreville Police Department at (732) 727-4444.
