Arts programs scheduled for children with autism
Classes for the second spring session of the Parent/Child Workshops in Music and Art for ChildrenWithAutismorAutistic Behaviors will be held on Saturdays,April 26- June 28, in New Brunswick, Morristown and Freehold.
The program, now in its 25th year, is sponsored by VSA arts of New Jersey (VSA/NJ), a nonprofit statewide organization dedicated to promoting the creative power in children with disabilities.
The 10 weekly sessions will provide young people with experiences inmusic, art or creative drama that will serve as an introduction to the arts while helping to develop communication, social and cognitive skills. Young people ages 3-17 are welcome to participate.
Music/movement and artworkshopswill be offered in New Brunswick. Art and creative drama/music/movement workshops will be offered in Morristown. Art workshops will be held in Freehold.
Registration will be accepted on a firstcome basis; deadline is April 1. There is a $30 registration fee for families whose children receive class placement. Fee waivers are available.
Funding for the programhas beenmade possible by a grant from the Robert and JoanDircks Foundation.Additional funding is provided by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State, a partner agency of the National Endowment for the Arts, and by the central office of VSA arts, under an award fromthe U.S. Department of Education. The program content, however, does not necessarily reflect the policy of the U.S. Department of Education, and endorsement should not be assumed.
