Literacy-volunteer training coming to E.B.

The East Brunswick Public Schools Department of Community Programs will offer a Literacy Volunteers of Middlesex training course from 7-9 p.m. onMondays, April 7-May 19 (no class on April 21) at East Brunswick High School, Cranbury Road.

Participants will be trained to tutor basic-literacy students, who need help in learning to read and write, and English as a Second Language students who are foreign born adults with a desire to improve their ability to understand and speak the English language. The course, developed to teach one-to-one tutoring as well as small-group and conversation-group training, will focus on the main principles of adult learning, goal setting, portfolio development and lesson planning.

Cost is $15. A tutor-training manual and textbook must be purchased from the instructor at a cost of $35.
