Program to encourage new beekeepers announced

The New Jersey Department of Agriculture and Rutgers New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station have announced a program to encourage new beekeepers in the state.

The program will offer $300 in equipment and bees to the first 50 first-time beekeepers successfully completing the "Bee-ginner's Beekeeping" course April 10-12 at Rutgers EcoComplex, Bordentown. Participants will not be given cash, but will have $300 in credit with New Jersey bee supply dealers. The State Apiarist and inspectors will periodically visit the new hives and provide technical assistance. To register, visit www.cpe.rutgers. edu/courses/current/ae0401ca.html.
