Triple H slates 'Grease' tryouts for April 14, 16
Triple H Productions Inc., the professional resident theatre company of the city of South Amboy, in collaboration with the city of South Amboy Department of Recreation and the South Amboy Public School District, will hold open auditions for the musical "Grease" at 6:30 p.m. on April 14 and 16 in the gymnasium at St. Stanislaus Kostka School, 225MacArthur Ave., Sayreville.
Youngsters in kindergarten-eighth grade will audition on April 14; performers in grades 9-12 are invited to try out on April 16. Audition sign-in will begin at 6:30 p.m. Performers arriving after 8:30 p.m. will not be permitted to audition. Students may register in advance to save time and ensure an audition spot by logging on to www.triplehproductions.com and filling out a registration form.
Auditions are open to all interested students, regardless of past training and/or experience.
The company, under the direction of Wilfredo Hernandez Jr., will present two versions of the show - one weekend will feature the youth cast with performers in kindergarten-eighth grade, and a second weekend will showcase the teen cast with performers in grades 9-12.
Auditions and early rehearsals (until June) will be held at St. Stanislaus Kostka School. All advanced technical rehearsals and performances of the show will be held at the South Amboy Middle School/High School Theatre, 200 Governor Hoffman Plaza.
Youth-cast performances are set for 8 p.m. on July 18 and 19 and 2 p.m. on July 20. The teen cast will perform at 8 p.m. on July 25 and 26 and at 2 p.m. on July 27.
Students, who are asked to prepare at least 16 bars (typically one verse and one refrain) of music to sing, must bring the sheet music to the audition. A-cappella tryouts will be not be permitted. The use of CD/cassette vocal tracks cannot be accommodated and will not be permitted. Songs should be suitable for the student's vocal and performance capabilities and should be in the style of the show. An accompanist will be provided. All roles are open.
