Man found dead under Veterans Bridge

SAYREVILLE - A man who police said had no known residence was found dead in an area below the Veterans Memorial Bridge.

Police identified the man as 47-yearold Richard J. Reilly, formerly of Forden Court. Police believe he had been living under the bridge that spans the South River. He was found deceased at 6:17 p.m. March 30.

Several patrol units were dispatched to Washington Road near the bridge, where another homeless man had reportedly found Reilly's body on an inclined part of the path.

The witness had knocked on the door of a nearby house on Washington Road to ask the residents to call the police. According to a police report, Reilly and the man who found his body frequently stayed under the bridge.

Another witness had last seen Reilly walking in the parking lot near the path that goes under the bridge at 4 p.m. the day that he died.

Police found no signs of injury or struggle. The Middlesex County Medical Examiner's Office removed his body from the scene.
