Flounder season in full effect for Shore area

From Barnegat Bay to the Raritan Bay is flounder, flounder, flounder. The Raritan Bay showed some flurries of boats anchored up with a hit and miss week of winter flounder as well as weather.Winds were steady for most of the week with anglers putting in their best efforts.

The more you chum for flatties, the better your odds. So far they have not been too picky. Mussels, clams or worms are working out about the same with a bite on the in or outgoing tide. The Keyport Flats is still producing lots of limits for those willing to put in the time. Not much action reported at all on the New York side of the bay. Reports were few if any as New York had its first week of flounder fishing. Temperatures in the bay have been around 47 to 49 degrees.

In Barnegat Bay, flounder and striped basswere showing up near theMantoloking Bridge with reports of bass just starting to show signs in numbers but not weight.

Further south in Cape May, Capt. John from Unreel Sport Fishing Charters has been playing catch and releasewith plenty of bass. Capt. John had over 80 bass on Friday but not a keeper in sight.He is a striper specialist and determined to land some big fish in the weeks to come. If you're down south, check him out. Reports of more and more bunker and herring are showing up in the back bays and marinas up and down the coast line. Some reports are said to be mind-boggling in size. This is the best sign we can get right now. May should be an all-out blitz on migrating bass. The best fishing in the world is on its way to the Garden State. Fish on.
