Cars broken into in Melrose
SAYREVILLE - Police are investigating six recent incidents of theft from motor vehicles in the borough's Melrose section.
All of the vehicles burglarized had been left unlocked by their owners while parked in their respective driveways. Therefore, no forced entry was involved.
Four of the thefts occurred on Thomas Avenue; the others on Oak Street and Roll Avenue.
A 2006 Porsche Cayenne and 1994 Mitsubishi Gallant that were parked in the same driveway on ThomasAvenue were entered between 9 p.m. April 7 and 9 a.m. April 8. Among the items stolen from the cars were a leather coat, two pairs of sunglasses, compact discs and two Bluetooth devices.
A neighbor's 2003 Cadillac Eldorado was also entered. The suspect or suspects stole $10 cash, a Tom Tom GPS portable navigation system and a Koran religious text. This took place between 5:30 a.m. April 7 and 11 a.m.April 8.AVerizon cellular phone that did not belong to the victims was reportedly left behind at the scene.
A next-door neighbor found that items had been stolen from a company vehicle parked in the driveway at 4:30 a.m.April 8. A Garmin GPS device valued at roughly $250 was stolen. The navigation system was the property of the resident, and not the company that owns the vehicle.
Another theft from a motor vehicle occurred less than a block a way on Oak Street between 9 p.m. April 7 and 8 a.m. April 8. The suspect or suspects stole a Bluetooth device, compact discs, basketballs and approximately $5 worth of loose change from a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Atheft took place at a RollAvenue home between 10 a.m.April 8 and 8:45 a.m.April 9, according to a police report. The victim found numerous itemsmissing froma 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee, including a heart pendent, a teapot, sunglasses, a cell phone and approximately $50 cash.
