Worker injured in machine accident

SAYREVILLE - A factory worker at a local steel mill suffered an injury while on the job last week.

The Morgan First Aid Squad was dispatched to the scene of the Gerdau Ameristeel mill on North Crossman Road at 2:51 p.m. April 15. Robert Carey, 60, of Keansburg, was removing wire from a machine when the wire swung around and partially amputated his left middle finger, according to a police report on the incident.

Fellow workers rendered first aid at the scene before the first aid squad arrived to treat him and transport him to Raritan Bay Medical Center, Perth Amboy.

Carey was treated and released from the hospital soon after the incident, according to a source at Raritan Bay Medical Center.
