Wants to see reports on air quality surrounding Route 18 I ask this question considering that in 1969, the Federal Aviation Agency (FAA) did a study of air quality and found that the air quality along Route 18 through East Brunswick would be at a dangerous level in the future should traffic flow increase as was predicted. In addition to emissions from trucks and cars on Route 18, sections of East Brunswick get similar pollution from the New Jersey Turnpike and methane gas being vented by the Edgeboro landfill. Methane gas is 26 times more harmful to the ozone layer as is carbon dioxide. Considering all the emissions being generated by the landfill, the turnpike and Route 18, I would like to see a report regarding air quality surrounding Route 18 at noon on aWednesday on a quarterly basis. Residents living within a quarter mile of Route 18 should have the assurance that their air quality is safe. This information would also assist the East Brunswick Planning Board regarding any future requests for developments that would attract increased traffic flow that may add pollution beyond acceptable standards.
