SAYREVILLE - Family, friends, and the Sayreville Emergency Squad remembered Sara Dubinin, the 19-year-old girl who was tragically killed in a car accident last September, in a special way onApril 6.

Following the accident, Sara's parents, Betty and Vic Dubinin, donated $2,000 to the squad to thank its members for their quick response that day. They asked that the squad put themoney to good use and to somehowmemorialize Sara's name, according to squad members.

Stanley Pilch, a life member of the squad, quickly went to work to try to find a good use for the money. Pilch was personally touched by the whole experience - he was one of the first EMTs on the scene, and he had personally known Sara through his future stepdaughter, Sara's friend Julianne Good.

Knowing that the squad needed new state-of-the-art EMT jackets, Pilch researched the best jackets available for the squad, then planned a way to have the community realize that the jackets were purchased to remember Sara. As a result, embroidered on the pocket of the coat are the words: "In memory of Sara Dubinin."

The completed coats arrived just in time for the squad to wear them at a Memorial Mass offered for Sara at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church on April 6. After the Mass, which was attended by 12 squad members wearing the jackets, as well as many of Sara's family members and friends, the squad hosted a luncheon at its headquarters on Washington Road.

There, Pilch gave the group a tour of the building, also showing themthe plaquememorializing Sara inside the building.

Sara was a Sayreville resident and graduate of Cardinal McCarrick High School, South Amboy. She was a student at Middlesex County College, Edison, and worked as a hostess at the Colonial Diner in East Brunswick.

The Dubinins and their extended family were so moved by the squad's tribute honoring the memory of their daughter, and of how great the new jackets are, that they decided to make additional donations of hundreds more dollars for the squad to purchase as many jackets as needed.

Betty Dubinin told the Suburban the family is thankful to the squad for the tribute.

"We wish to thank the Sayreville Emergency Squad for everything they did to help Sara," she said. "We are grateful for the thought, time and effort Stan [Pilch] put into selecting these jackets ... It is a touching tribute to our daughter Sara."
