Thompson mobile office coming to Old Bridge Assemblyman Sam Thompson (R-13) will sponsor a mobile office from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on May 15 at the George Bush Senior Center in the municipal complex, Route 516 and Cottrell Road, Old Bridge. Legislative staff members will answer questions, help constituents resolve problems with state agencies and assist those who wish to sign up for state programs. Help will be available with the two state discount-prescription drug programs, PAAD (PharmaceuticalAssistance for the Aged and Disabled) and the Senior Gold Prescription Drug Program, as well as NJFamilyCare and the Senior Property Tax Freeze (also called Property Tax Reimbursement) program. Qualified seniors and the disabled are reminded that the maximum income for the senior tax freeze this year is $45,135 for single applicants, $55,344 for married applicants, and the filing deadline is June 2, 2008. Individuals may still file for the federal stimulus payment of $300-$600 per person. Those who file by Oct. 15, 2008, will receive a check this year. To qualify, an individual must have a valid Social Security number and a qualified income of at least $3,000 and must file a federal income tax form. Qualified income includes earned income such as wages or salary, as well as Social Security, Social Security disability, veterans and railroad retirement benefits; SSI income does not count. Staff members will assist those who do not ordinarily file an income-tax form. A representative of the State Health InsuranceAssistance Program (SHIP) will be available to assist with questions and problems related to health-insurance programs including Medicare. SHIP counselors are volunteers trained by the state of New Jersey to provide free, unbiased information to state residents regarding health-insurance matters. Veterans will be able to register with the National World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C., and apply for New Jersey Military Service Medals. Mobile-Office Day is open to the public.
