Stardust to feature debut of children's musical

Registration for Stardust,AMusical TheaterWorkshop forKids, will be held 7-9 p.m. May 12 in the auditoriumfoyer at Sayreville War Memorial High School (SWMHS), Washington Road.

The summer workshop, open to youngsters in grades 4-8, will include lessons in acting and singing andwill culminate in the performance of a musical-theater production. Each Stardustmusical is designed and staged as an ensemble piece, where every performer is a part of the play, has lines, sings and dances.

Two of the program's foundingmembers, Dr.MichaelA. Piccuirro and JamesH.Craft, have collaborated on an original children's musical, which will debut this season. Stardust'sworld premiere of "WhatDoYouWant to Be When You Grow Up?" explores, in a musical and comic way, the questions many individuals wonder about: "What kind of personwill I bewhen I growup?," "Whatwill I do for a living?," "What job or career will I have?," "What kind of mark will I leave on this world?"

Two workshop sessions are scheduled. Session 1 is set for July 7-23. Session 2 will runAug. 4-20. Participantswillmeet from9 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. Mondays-Thursdays at SWMHS.

Dr. Piccuirro, who has had a number of his plays, musicals, Shakespeare and classic theater adaptations performed on stage, most recently adapted Shakespeare's "Othello" for performance at SWMHS. Craft has musically directedmany productions. "What Do You Want to Be When You Grow Up?" will be his first original musical.

Stardust also is taught by co-founder Claire Craft and program alumnus Ron Mancini. All directors are fully certified and licensed teachers.
