Police investigate car burglaries

OLD BRIDGE - Township police are investigating a series of car burglaries that occurred on the same night last week.

The suspect or suspects smashed the windows of four motor vehicles that were parked in residential areas within a mile of each other, targeting GPS navigational devices in each of the cars.

The front passenger window of a 1992 Mazda MPV was smashed while the car was parked outside a Wells Drive home in the Parlin section between 6 p.m. April 30 and 12:15 a.m. May 1. A mount for a GPS navigational system was in plain sight, but the victim kept the device itself inside the compartment. Nothing was missing from the vehicle, which was ransacked in the incident.

A Garmin GPS device was stolen from a 2008 Toyota Camry that was parked on nearby Gorniak Drive between 2 a.m. May 1 and 3:38 a.m. May 1. The driverside window was broken in order to gain entry to the vehicle, according to the police report on the incident.

Another incident was reported on Westminster Boulevard between 11 p.m. April 30 and 6 a.m. May 1. The suspect or suspects shattered the passenger-side window of a 2000 Infiniti 130 and stole a Tom Tom GPS device.

A Garmin GPS device was stolen from a 2006 Dodge Dakota that was parked outside an Athens Avenue home between 8 p.m. April 30 and 6 a.m. May 1. The motor vehicle was parked in front of the victim's house, and the driver-side window was broken in order for the perpetrator to gain entry.

Police asked that anyone with information on these incidents call the Old Bridge Police Department at (732) 721- 5600, ext. 3280.
