Youngsters to score goal against breast cancer The Old Bridge Soccer League and Susan G. Komen for the Cure will jointly present the first Old Bridge Soccer League Breast Cancer Awareness Day from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on May 17 at the Ticetown Road field complex. The event will run concurrently with the league's regularly scheduled games. Rain date is June 7. Volunteers from Susan G. Komen for the Cure will be on hand to answer questions, speak with families about breast-cancer issues, provide support and discuss the importance of early detection and monitoring. The players will receive a pink sticker for the games. All the league's 20 games, played amongst teams with children ranging in age from 4-17, will be contested with a commemorative pink soccer ball to help youngsters and families understand the significance of the event. Guests should feel free to wear pink in support. The Old Bridge Soccer League will conduct 50/50 raffles throughout the day, and the league's portion of the proceeds from the raffle will be donated to the Komen foundation. Raffle prizes will include a signed soccer ball from the New Jersey Ironmen, tickets to Red Bulls games, second-row tickets to New Jersey Ironmen games and gameday commemorative pink balls and apparel. There will be a special shootout area. Referees will serve as goalies. Interested individuals will be invited to take their best shot. Players will receive pink bracelets from the Susan G. Komen Foundation after the games. Donations to Susan G. Komen for the Cure also will be gratefully accepted. Contributions in any amount may be brought to the complex the day of the event; mailed to the Old Bridge Soccer League, P.O. Box 5277, Old Bridge, NJ 08857, Attn.: Brenda Gianchetti; or made online at www.komencsnj.org. To support the event, click on "Donate Today" on the home page and put in Old Bridge Soccer as the honoree. |
