Boro man charged in stabbing SAYREVILLE — A man was arrested Saturday for allegedly stabbing and injuring his sister the prior day. Luis Diaz, 44, of Sayreville, had allegedly stabbed his sister Ramona Diaz, 45, of Perth Amboy, around 10 a.m. on Friday, according to Sayreville Police Detective Jeremy Berry. Diaz was charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon. Police said the incident occurred at a house on Oak Street. "[Ramona Diaz] was cutting up a mango, and she asked her brother if he wanted it," Berry said. "That's when he became irate and [allegedly] stabbed his sister." According to Berry, Diaz has a past history of mental health problems. Ramona was airlifted to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, with what police said were non-life-threatening injuries. Diaz was arrested at 4 p.m. Saturday. "We got a call from a neighbor in the area who saw him walking in a wooded area near Oak Street," Berry said. Diaz was taken to the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center in North Brunswick. His bail was set at $300,000. |
