Armed robber demands drugs at pharmacy in Old Bridge

OLD BRIDGE — A local pharmacy was held up by a lone gunman who sought unsuccessfully to obtain prescription drugs, according to police.

The suspect entered Future Pharmacy, located at Route 34 and Spring Hill Road, at 7:51 p.m. June 12, just a few minutes before its 8 p.m. Friday closing time. Police were dispatched to the pharmacy after being alerted by a panic alarm, but the suspect had already fled.

Patrolman Michael Desario was the first to respond to the scene, finding that no one was hurt and nothing was stolen from the business, according to Old Bridge Police Lt. Robert Moser.

Moser said the suspect entered the pharmacy with his face covered by a bandana. He approached the owner of the business while armed with a black handgun. The suspect then jumped over the counter, waving his gun, in order to look for drugs, Moser said. However, he left soon after the owner informed him that the drugs were locked up, and that he could not open the safe.

"The guy jumped over the counter and ran out of the store," Moser said.

The suspect left the scene in a gray twodoor sports car. He was described as a white man in his mid-20s, between 5 feet 11 inches and 6 feet tall, with a thin build. He wore a black T-shirt, jeans, sneakers and a dark-coloredMets baseball cap.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call the Old Bridge Police Department Detective Bureau at 732-721-5600, ext. 3001.
